Matt Payne, host of the F-Stop and Listen podcast surprised me a few weeks ago with an invitation to be on his podcast! He had seen a very nice review written by a member of The Art of Selling Art.

Autumn Colors!

Autumn is here!

I see all the photo bugs out and about chasing color this fall and I love it.

yeah, I know, I typically don’t show too much color in one space but sometimes I do. And…

When I do go out and grab fall colors with my camera I make sure they are as robust as I can get them.

Here are a few of my favorite Fall captures.

Edge of Solace

This scene is as much painting as photograph. It is a scene I’ve longed for but never found and, finally, allowed my creativity to rend reality. Edge of Solace is an idea I’ve carried with me for a long time but I feel that it was Seattle and the Northwest that gave me the inspiration and the building blocks to bring it to life. All the elements in Edge of Solace were captured in Seattle and Mercer Island making it a true work of the Pacific Northwest and a statement about my time here.

As I strive to visualize and create this idea of Comfortable Isolation I find myself drawn to water and what it represents: renewal, neutrality, energy. In psychology, the ego is referred to as a pool of energy. Too often, I visit my ego when it is roiling, dry, or as hard as ice. In my meditations, I imagine myself on the shore of my ego and I will it to be vast. The Edge of Solace is my reminder to self to visit here often, to meditate on my experiences, to check-in with my feelings, and to keep this place vibrant and full.

A long way from your local art festival

This is a long way from a state art festival

I've been to an expo or two in the last six years of my career but enjoying an art show and showing your own work on the big stage were very different experiences. Instead of meeting artists and gallery representatives, I met people from all over the country and world who flew to New York City specifically to purchase art. I had fun conversations with collectors from Miami and challenging conversations with Architects from Bejing.

Not So Nude, Nudes

Over the course of four days, I saw hundreds of people take pictures with "Left Alone." It is a wonderful feeling of validation after spending so much time not believing I could do this sort of work.

Left Alone

Also an aria, of sorts. Left Alone is my favorite saxophone solo. A 1978 piece by Archie Shepp. The model for both of these is the beautiful Angelina Aho.

On exhibit here at the same 6'x4' size as Aria. Both pieces are editions of 15 and start at 36" in height.

One "Left Alone" (the red and white) was collected at the show and another is on it's way to Maimi. Aria is being packed and shipped this weekend forits new home.

The piece that named the collection as a whole. An ariais a piece of music written for a solo artist, think opera. That powerful performance is how I think of these photographs.

Here was shown a 72x48 edition mounted to acrylic with a recessed frame.

Upcoming events

Next up for the year is Art Expo Santa Fe, July 12-15th. I'll be showing the landscapes. It is still up in the air at the moment, more to come on that later. Later this year I will show both the landscapes and the nudes in San Diego and Miami in October and December.

I love that tag-line from Realogics Sotheby's in Seattle. It applies to art as much as it applies to the beautiful homes they find for their clients. On the 22nd we are kicking off a month-long art exhibit in the Park House on 4031 E Madison Street, Seattle. There will be great wine and eats. I will be showing several pieces including the new Avendasora, pictured below, and Nude 1.

I have actually been practicing

being thankful. Admittedly, I'm bad at it. Bad at remembering to practice. Poor, even, at recognizing the gifts I have in plentitude.

I am thankful for... A) that you have opened this email- you're part of a slim 20% that do. & B) That, for a change, I won't be eating spaghetti at home and watching a movie this year. Though, it's been a 'thing' long enough to be considered a tradition by now.

While I won't be doing any sort of holiday sales this year I do have some things to look forward to for you.

AVENDASORA - I am in love with this new piece and I will be releasing it in email and social media on the 1st of December. Some of you may have seen previews of her already. She has me in a trance and is certainly this year's masterpiece.

DECEMBER 4TH, an inauspicious Monday, is about the cut off for ordering a piece for Christmas. After that, I'm not 100% positive that I will be able to get it to you by the big day, especially if you want it framed.
