Tree of fire

a note from the artist
** The Tree of Fire was destroyed in a storm in the winter of 2017.
Tucked away in the back of a Kubota Japanese Garden, the “Tree of Fire” was difficult to find. I found it as the sun set below the trees. Ambient light seemed to fall on the leaves like dust from a Disney movie. I was inspired by how the tree knew just how far to grow to kiss the pond’s surface just so. I chose this composition to show the balance the Tree of Fire has achieved with its environment.
I find the branches of Japanese Maple Trees to be like visual labrynths. Following the branches with your eyes is like walking the soothing path of moving meditation. My aim is for the art to induce a 60-second meditation when you raise your attention to it. Creating a stillness in the viewer and raising the power of the present now.
“Beautiful Things That Are Gone”
In 2018 I gave a TED Talk about this Tree and three other photographs of places that were destroyed. Please enjoy that talk below. The story of the Tree of Fire is the third that I share.

Lumachrome is unsurpassed in it’s ability to articulate fine detail and incredible contrast. It has a metallic feel, and it seems to glow with the smallest addition of light to the room. You will love it. Lumachrome is unsurpassed in it’s ability to articulate fine detail and incredible contrast. It has a metallic feel, and it seems to glow with the smallest addition of light to the room. You will love it. The material refracts light in such a way that light travels laterally through the paper as well as reflects to the audience, creating a brilliant effect that many mistake to be rear illumination. Each print is then face-mounted to acrylic and sandwiched to a protective backing. The artwork is then framed, or a recessed mount is added to the back to float on the wall. I offer many framing options on this website, or you can collect the artwork and have it framed at your preferred framer. I recommend Peace be framed in the shadowbox Ramino presentation, which can be done in black or brown tones. More arrangements are available. Liners are available in Black, White, and Beige. See FRAMES in the menu above for more frames and liner options.
