Shade Of My Heart
A meditation on shelter, shadow, and the tension between preservation and prevention.
A single cloud floats above an endless white plain. It casts a perfect shadow on the earth below—soft, still, unmistakable. The scene is quiet, but it holds weight. The kind of stillness that asks something of you.
This image is not just about the surreal nature of the cloud or the starkness of the landscape. It’s about the emotional shape of shelter and the cost that can come with it.
The shadow of the cloud is cooling, protective. It softens the light, offers relief, and becomes a place to rest. And in that way, it preserves. It saves. But it also conceals. It blocks the light that might reveal, transform, or ignite something deeper. It prevents.
So I ask:
Was this shelter protection, or was it a pause in growth?
Did it give me peace, or keep me from becoming light?
Shade of My Heart sits inside that tension. It’s not about clarity. It’s about recognition. The moment when you realize that the thing offering you comfort might also be holding you back. And the quiet that follows.
This is not a conclusion.
It’s a place to stand.
To feel the shadow.
And decide what it means—for you.

a note from the artist
I was once asked about love by someone in the midst of heartbreak.
At the time, I recalled a perspective I had heard years earlier—one that stayed with me long after I first encountered it.
Love, or being in love, is like trying to catch a drifting cloud.
You race across a wide, scorching plain, chasing its shade. The heat depletes you. The light is relentless. The pursuit itself becomes exhausting.
Then—finally—you catch it.
The shade cools you. The moisture in the air nourishes you. While the shadow is cast upon you, you feel peace. You feel held.
But the cloud has the entire sky to wander. It drifts on currents it doesn’t control. It ranges across the landscape without attachment, giving little thought to the shadow it casts.
To remain in its shelter, you have to keep moving. You must chase.
And that chase—over time—becomes more painful than standing exposed in the sun.
Sometimes, you can keep up.
Other times, you can’t.
Edition of 10
"Shade Of My Heart" is an edition of 10 available in 4 sizes.
It is produced on an incredible metallic paper that seems to hold light within it, making it feel as though it glows.
The art is then face-mounted to a matte acrylic giving the art a surreal finish.
When ordered, a recessed mount is attached so that you can hang it as soon as it arrives.
All of the above, plus shipping, is included in the price. See the prices and sizes below.
About the prints: I print on a premium substrate that is unparalleled in depth and luminosity. The material refracts light in such a way that light travels laterally through the paper as well as reflects to the audience creating a brilliant effect that many mistake to be rear illumination. Each print is then face mounted to acrylic and sandwiched to a protective backing. The artwork is then framed or a recessed mount is added to the back to float on the wall. I offer many framing options on this website or you can collect the artwork and have it framed at your preferred framer.
Each Shade Of My Heart edition is limited to 10 pieces. It is produced on beautiful Lumachrome paper, face-mounted to a matte acrylic and a recessed mount is installed. Cleats are provided for hanging. The price includes shipping.
