Ice Cave With A View
A fleeting structure shaped by time, pressure, and melt—captured in a moment that cannot be repeated.
About the moment
The Big Four Ice Caves are seasonal structures, shaped by pressure, melt, and time. They are never still, and never guaranteed to return in the same form twice.
I waited as the light shifted inside the cave, aware that the moment was temporary. The following day, an avalanche changed the space entirely. This image captures a brief alignment—something witnessed, not revisited.
A note from the artist
I spent about an hour inside the ice cave with my friend and my dog. At the back of the cave, where the snowpack meets the mountain, is a waterfall lit by a natural skylight—an experience that remains among the most surreal of my life.
As I was leaving, I noticed the sky softening, pink hues gathering along the edges of the clouds. I made it as far as the trees before turning back. I had the feeling that this moment mattered. So I waited—counting, with trepidation, the cave kisses falling onto me and my camera.

“Beautiful Things That Are Gone”
In 2018 I gave a TED Talk about this Tree and three other photographs of places that were destroyed. Please enjoy that talk below. The story of the Ice Cave With A View is the fourth that I share.
Each print in this limited edition extends the act of witnessing—an opportunity to live with a moment that no longer exists in the same way.

Is the edition signed and numbered?
I use a tamper-proof, holographic pair of seals to certify the art with the Certificate of Authenticity.
I don’t typically sign the front of the art because I feel it interrupts the flow of the piece.
How long does shipping take?
Production and deliver take about 30 days.Adding framing doesn’t normally affect shipping time, unless the frame is out of stock or must be shipped from abroad.
What if the art arrives damaged?
All my work is fully insured during transport. You will have 48 hours to report any damage during shipping.
