a note from the artist

The fierce hues in the quickening sky match the tumultuous surf incessantly pounding the seemingly insignificant stone outcropping which is only tenuously tethered to the more massive land formation by the insubstantial linking of two incongruous slabs of rough hewn rock.  The harsh, angry heavens and roiling, ocean waves represent the formidable forces that rail and conspire against man's daily strivings to clamber out of the fray in order to succeed, progress, create, lead, and live a decent life.  Hope does persist, and can be viewed on the landward side of the battered, but undaunted, rock formation that stands between the abusive surf and the gentle shower cascading down the rock into the relatively protected cove created by the joining of the outcropping to the more substantive land mass.

Symbolically it is a fascinating scene of human life portrayed by the ever contending forces of nature.  If a man's determination and conviction give him the strength to stand firm against the constant challenges and strife that may defeat him, then there is peace and pleasure yet to be discovered.

The seemingly inconsequential bridge in the picture, and between one man and the rest of the world, is all that is needed for anyone willing to reach out and join forces with others to strengthen the will and capacity of the whole through the linking of the smallest part to the bigger picture for the benefit of everyone.

Overall, I perceive a rendering of hope in a chaotic world.  It is always heartwarming to ponder forces of formidable power, and recognize man's indomitable spirit and will, and his power to withstand and endure in the face of insurmountable odds.

Edition of 50

About the prints: I print on a premium substrate that is unparalleled in depth and luminosity. The material refracts light in such a way that light travels laterally through the paper as well as reflects to the audience creating a brilliant effect that many mistake to be rear illumination. Each print is then face mounted to acrylic and sandwiched to a protective backing. The artwork is then framed or a recessed mount is added to the back to float on the wall. I offer Tabacchino and other handmade framing options. Available starting at 30” and as long as 80” with custom sizes. Below are examples of a 36” edition in a variety of frames with and without liners. More arrangements are available. Liners are available in Black, White, Beige. See FRAMES in the menu above for more frames and liner options.
